If you happen to be on the island of St. Vincent today, you’ll come across Vincies who are sleep deprived and perhaps battling a hangover, but it’s alright, they are full of joy.

St. Vincent is in the midst of Nine Mornings. A festival that has gone on longer than anyone can remember, it takes place annually from December 16th through December 24th. In the wee early morning hours, 4:00 A.M. early, various outdoor events are held around town, drawing crowds to participate in and view lighted bicycle races, gospel choir performances, dancing, church services, and concerts.

Often the parties or fetes, begin the evening before and partygoers revel through the night, in anticipation of the early morning street parties. Even employers have become resigned that little work will be accomplished during Nine Mornings.
