Hi. I’m Nicole Durbin. I live in Seattle, Washington with my husband, Brian, and our two children. We’re a homeschooling family and co-owners of Black Bottle, where Brian is the chef. And I write, in small increments of time, about a dream made truth.
I met Brian two weeks before I turned sixteen. Our dream began way back then, when we were teenagers. We dreamed of moving to a tropical island and operating our own business. Seventeen years passed before we lived our dream.
There was a lot to do before we were ready to put our heart and soul into the dream. We moved into an apartment together after high school and entered the workforce. We split up. We got back together. I learned how to fly airplanes. Brian became chef of a respected restaurant. We got married. We traveled. We started a family. Then we made our dream a reality.
We became co-owners and operators of a multimillion dollar beachfront resort on more than 50 acres of blissful Caribbean paradise. What we didn’t know until we arrived was that we were stepping onto an emotional rollercoaster which wouldn’t stop until the whole adventure came to an unexpected, halting end.
But where one dream dies, another begins. There is no longer just one dream, but many.
